You’ve probably heard us say it a thousand times, but the importance of good accent lighting can never be understated. Whether it’s a pair of matching lamps on two night stands, or a reading lamp in a cozy corner of your bedroom, soft lighting will add so much tranquility to the space. Whatever combination of accent lighting you choose to stage your home with, always opt for soft white light bulbs. These offer the perfect balance of light temperature for any room.
If your master suite has ample space, we like to add some supplementary seating to fill out the room. For example, one of our favorite design tricks is to add a bench at the foot of the bed. It’s one of the simplest ways to transform your bedroom into an inviting space. Benches are great because they come in so many styles and materials, so there’s an option for every design aesthetic. Other cozy seating options for your bedroom include a chaise or an occasional chair. These pieces offer the perfect spot to relax and unwind with a book or a glass of wine at the end of a long day.
Perhaps the most obvious way to achieve an enviable level of cozy in your bedroom is to pile on the pillows and layer on the blankets! And if you need a refresher on how to make the perfect bed, check out our full guide here [insert link]. Pillows and throw blankets are an excellent way to add texture and style to your bedroom. You can even add a pillow to your reading chair or chaise and drape a soft blanket over the bench. Either way, keep the color palette neutral or limited to soft tones. We love fabrics like flannel and jersey in the fall and winter months, and we favor organic linen and cotton during the spring and summer.
Rugs are yet another way to transform your bedroom. Much of the guiding principles we use when incorporating pillows and blankets (i.e., soft colors and mixed textures) applies to your rug choices as well. Subtle patterns and low-pile rugs are your best design options in the bedroom. In terms of layout, we always favor laying a rug horizontally underneath the bottom half of the bed. Make sure that the rug extends past the foot of the bed (or your bench) by about a foot or so.
The coziest bedroom is not complete until you add a few touches of greenery. Whether it’s a large fiddle leaf fig tree or a few small succulents artfully arranged on a dresser, plants can bring the simplest bedroom to life. If you aren’t blessed with a green thumb, no worries. A simple arrangement of dried botanical or tall bamboo branches can also bring an equally zen-like mood to your space.
