A ring of raised beads circles the glass, and stepped bands of white and tan run out to the edge, so the frame looks lived-in from the day it goes up. It measures 23.6 in across, a size that suits a powder room, an entry console or a bedroom dresser.

Beaded edges come from old country furniture, where a row of small beads dressed up a plain border. Here the beads sit just inside a set of ridged bands, and the white settles into the grooves while the raised bands keep more of the wood tone, which is why the finish reads as aged rather than painted. Beside a brass lamp or a stack of linen towels it feels coastal; over a dark console it turns more cottage. It is the softest of the round shapes in our mirrors.
