A wood trivet tray earns its place the moment a warm teapot needs somewhere to land. This one is made from dark black walnut or pale ash and carved across its whole face with deep ripples that sweep in two S-curves and meet at a seam, so it reads as an object even when nothing sits on it.

The grooves follow two opposing curves, like a fingerprint split down the middle, and each ridge catches light on one side and holds shadow on the other, so the pattern shifts as a lamp comes on in the evening. Walnut is dark and chocolate-toned with visible grain; ash is pale and blond and quieter on a light counter. Pair it with carved and stone pieces from our decorative objects.
The large tray is 10.8 x 10.8 in, room for a teapot and two small cups. The medium is 7.7 x 7.7 in, sized for a single pot, a candle or a set of keys by the door. Both are 0.9 in thick and sit flat on a table, counter or shelf.
Walnut and ash are natural woods, so grain and tone vary from piece to piece and from the photos. Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry it right away; do not soak it or put it in the dishwasher. A soft dry brush clears crumbs and dust from the grooves. Long stretches of direct sun can lighten walnut over time.
Can a hot teapot sit on it? Yes. It is sold as a heat pad for the table, made to sit under a warm teapot or serving dish.
